Development of Toronto is the website for the fourth-year course HIST4530 offered by York University’s Department of History. In it you will find resources for anyone interested in studying Toronto’s history, including an extensive timeline; a comprehensive list of useful links; and original work produced by various students who have taken this course. The student essays published in this website are based on original research using historical primary source documents and supported through secondary source analysis. Each essay was reviewed by both the course instructor and a student peer reviewer. In the 2016-17 school year, students in HIST4530 wrote about eighteen riots in city’s past. Their work will be featured in a digital interactive map and timeline that will make part of a digital exhibition currently in development titled “Toronto the Bad.”
The website was created by Dr. Sean Kheraj and continued by Dr. Gilberto Fernandes, who currently teaches the course. If you have questions about Development of Toronto, please write Dr. Fernandes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
